"Hey, while we're on a roll. I have an idea on what to do with that nightlight."

"Uh, hello? My life card!?"
Mei inspected the compartment carefully.
"What the crap!? Don't tell me I did all that for nothing! This is BS!"

"I don't think we're done just yet Mei"
They were close though... at least.. he sincerely hoped they were.

"I'm gonna kick that fucker's ass for making me do all that! You here me, you fucker!?"
Mei shouted angrily at the camera on the ceiling, continuing to make an ass of herself.

Akane whispered.
"Hey... Fox?"
She looked like she'd been wanting to talk about something for a while.

He raised an eyebrow before moving slightly closer to her and whispering back
"Yeah?"

"What do you think this is all about...? Making us solve puzzles on live TV like this, I mean. Doesn't all it seem... pointless, to you?"

"I have no idea what this guy wants with us, but putting us on live TV? I kinda think he's trying to prove a point to someone watching it."
He shrugged
"Who knows though. What kind of person would kidnap people and put them in a sick game like this?"

"I have no idea..."
Akane tilted her head to the side, and put her finger to her chin.
"But... if you were them, wouldn't you want to start the game during the day? If you want a lot of people to see your show, starting it at midnight isn't a good way to get many viewers. Well, unless..."

"Unless what?"
He frowned
"I see your point though most people are sleeping at midnight. Do you think he has a particular audience member in mind? Someone he knows is watching?"

"I suppose that could be. If that was the case, all he'd have to do is tell that person to watch TV at midnight..."
Akane paused.
"But then... isn't this a lot of trouble to go through, just for one person? This entire spaceship... all these kidnapped people... hacking into a TV network... that monkey..."
She looked over at Saru, who was having fun mimicking Mei.

"Yeah, it must have cost a hell of a load of money"
He turned to follow Akane gaze
"I still can't quite believe our 9th team mate is a talking monkey"

"Me neither... although, I guess it makes sense when you think about it. Just a little bit."
Akane seemed to know something.

"Well, it's not that having a monkey as a teammate isn't strange... but if Zero wanted to choose an animal to participate in the game, doesn't a monkey seems like the best choice? Monkeys have been traveling to space for almost a century, after all. Even longer than us humans."

"Yeah I guess. They've also sent dogs and mice, but yeah another primate would suit their purposes the best."
He chuckled darkly
"Even if this one would give Darwin a heart attack"

Akane giggled.
"They certainly have come a long way since then... I read in a book once that the first mammal to be sent to space was a monkey. He was a rhesus monkey named Albert II, and was trained for space flight in the US."
She continued on with her story.
"It was in 1949... He was the second monkey they tried to send up. The first Albert died of suffocation during his flight a year earlier, before he could make it all the way to space."

"They brought the monkeys and apes back didn't they? Some of them anyway."
He looked down.
"Kinda like us in a way, grab a bunch of innocents and thrust them into an experiment in space. I wonder how many of us will be lucky enough to go home"
He looked back at her
"What happened to Albert II?"

"Albert II? Well... he died. Even though he made it to space safely, the way back down wasn't so easy. There was a parachute failure. His ship fell from the sky, and crashed on the ground thousands of miles below."
Akane tilted her head.
"Albert III didn't have it so good either. His rocket exploded at 35,000 feet."
"Then Albert IV made it space, but still died because there was another parachute failure."
"Albert V also died for the same reason. Parachute failures were actually a bigger danger to them than space itself was."

"The moral of the story is stay out of space if your name is Albert"

Akane smiled.
"There was one Albert that did make a successful flight though. It was was Albert VI... though, not everything went according to plan. He was sent up along with 11 mice, and reached the targeted elevation. But when his ship landed in New Mexico, he and all 11 mice had to wait inside the sealed capsule for about 2 hours for the recovery team to pick them up. By the time the team arrived for them, they had already died from overheating due to the hot sun."

"I stand by my previous statement"
He smiled uneasily at her
"So Akane, not that this isn't interesting and somewhat relevant as we're in space but.. why are you telling me all of this?"

"Well, I just thought it was kinda funny. They tried over and over again, but like a cartoon, there was always some silly mistake that made it go wrong. That's all."
She did seem to be enjoying herself as she talked about it. Perhaps telling a funny story helped her to be calm in this difficult situation.

"Right..."
Fox seemed a little troubled. Sure, for the humans in charge, some silly mistake just meant they had to try again. But for the many Alberts...
"Thanks for sharing that with me Akane, I hadn't heard it before. So, should we go check out my idea for the night light?"

"Huff.... huff.... huff...."

"Are you alright Mei?"
Fox nodded at Akane
"In the bathroom there is a light switch, leaving the room in total darkness when it's flipped. I saw an outlet socket in the cabinet. It's worth a try, something may be hidden in there,"
He kicked off against the wall towards the tiny room.
