Zero's voice lowered to a harsh and gritty tone.
"...I have ensured that they can do nothing to stop me."
The camera zoomed in.
"Should they attempt to interfere, all nine hostages will instantly lose the game."

Mei stared up at the screen in silence. She was completely speechless.
It was true. She was but a hostage in all of this. All nine of them were. If this "Lord Zero" wanted to, he could end their lives immediately.

"What do you want dammit? You expecting a ransom?"

"A ransom... no. Does one kidnap ants from an anthill, and ask for mere crumbs in payment for their safety? What I desire is far greater than anything your feeble mind can comprehend."
Zero continued, seeming completely confident and un-phased. A simple process of explaining the rules, he showed no sensitivity or remorse for the players risking their lives.
"Now then... I have some more rules for you. If you value your lives, you must listen closely. There are two other possible methods to remove your bracelets."
-1-
"You escape from this ship."
-2-
"Your heartbeat reaches zero."
"In other words, once a player has run out of Life Points, the bracelet is taken outside the confines of this ship, or it detects that the wearer's heartbeat has fallen to zero, it will release itself."

Fox quietly seethed as this Zero explained his rules.
"How exactly can we escape from a space ship? "

Wataru was scrunching his eyebrows.
"Tch... let me guess... those numbered doors?"

Fox turned to look at them, then rolled his eyes.
"Alright, so how do we get the doors open?"

|
Post by Zero on May 25, 2013 14:39:20 GMT -5
"That is correct. Hidden throughout this ship, you will find a handful of these doors in your search for an exit. The key to opening these doors lies within your bracelets."
The screen displayed the face of a bracelet, with the number 9 shown on it.
"In order to pass through any numbered door, you must pay a toll. The cost of this toll will be Life Points, equal to the number emblazoned on the door. For a person with 9 LP, passing through the number 2 door will leave him with 7 LP.
9 - 2 = 7
The screen went black for a moment, then displayed a panel. It looked the same as the ones that were by the numbered doors.
"Once the game has begun, this toll can be payed by pressing your palm against the panel by the door you wish to pass through. Once you have done so, the door will open for exactly 9 seconds, then close again. During this time, anyone who has payed the toll for the door may pass through."
"There is, however, one limitation. No more than 5 people may occupy the rooms behind a numbered door at any given time."
"Once a player has payed his toll, he may pass through the door at any time he wishes, for no additional cost. However, should someone attempt to pass through a numbered door without paying the initial toll, his LP will be reduced to 0 immediately, causing his bracelet to release itself."
"The exit of this ship... is a door inscribed with the number 9. It is hidden, but it can be found."

"A number 9 door..."
Hidemi stared up at zero.
"Then tell us how we're supposed to gain additional LP for our bracelets. If the toll for the final door is 9 LP, then it will be impossible to escape if we go into any other numbered door."

"There are two ways to earn additional hours."
"The first is to find an item called a Life Card. Each of you used one to escape the rooms in which you first awoke aboard this ship. These identical cards can be found in rooms behind each numbered door, and are required to unlock Exit Doors, which will allow you to proceed further in the game."
"Each Life Card will award its user with 9 additional LP. However, only the person to slide the card through the reader will gain the hours... and each card may only be used once. A total of 18 Life Cards remain in the game. Use them wisely."

"Just 18, huh? That means each of us gets two."

Mei was getting impatient.
"So what about the other method, huh? You just said there were two!"

|
Post by Zero on May 25, 2013 15:20:31 GMT -5
"The second method is a much simpler one, which has the potential to earn you more than 9 hours at a time. In each of the rooms in which you awoke, you were provided with this method."
A small knife is displayed on the screen, not unlike the ones you found in your rooms.
"Should you use one of these knives to end another player's life, his LP will be added to your own."

Blake mumbled to himself.
"So everyone has one of those knives, huh...?"
He rose his voice to an audible level.
"Well, it looks like we can't trust one another. Not like I trusted any of you to begin with. Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I trust the monkey. I doubt he has the ability to kill me, but hell, he can speak. So he could surprise me."

Fox balked at this development.
He wasn't about to commit murder, but the others.. he didn't know anyone here, any one of them could jump him. Instinctively gripping his knife tightly, Fox growled back
"That's insane"

"There is one last thing I must tell you. Your bracelets also have a timer built into them. They will count down the minutes and seconds of each hour. To view this timer, press the buttons on either side of your bracelet."
"At the end of every hour, they will beep, to indicate the deduction of your LP. Remember this."
The screens showed one final close-up of Zero's masked face.
"The game will begin at the end of this hour... midnight. You have 9 minutes to prepare yourselves."
With that, they all shut off. Every light in the room returned to normal.

Hiyato had kept quiet during this whole mess, slowly letting the info sink in. However, at hearing about taking another's life to gain LP, he tensed up. As tough as he acted, he knew he could never bring himself to kill someone. He sighed, realizing that it might be necessary for self defense, figuring he didn't know any of these people. He realized that there was no point in throwing a tantrum about his situation because it would do no good. It might even anger this guy.
"Let's just get this over with..."
He began thinking of how to prepare for the game.
